What it is

Alternative Investments (AIFs)

Alternative Investment Funds pool capital from investors to pursue strategies outside conventional mutual fund structures. Depending on the category, an AIF may invest in private companies, private credit, real estate, listed opportunities, or specialised situations. The fund is managed according to its private placement memorandum, stated strategy, and relevant regulations.

These funds commonly operate with defined fund lives, drawdowns, and restricted redemption windows. Their holdings, valuation methods, fees, and reporting can be more complex than those of standard public-market products. Each AIF has its own investment process and terms, so its documentation explains how capital is called, deployed, monitored, and ultimately returned to investors.
